Cheba Hut – Chandler, AZ

This was a sub-shop – not the place you’d expect someone on a ketogenic diet to go to. As I was traveling with non-keto people, they wanted to check this place out off the recommendation of a friend. I was hopeful that they’d have a lettuce wrap option or non-sub food choices. Upon asking, they informed me that I could order any sub as a salad instead. The place was very unique and the sub I selected sounded interesting to me so I went for it. Containing some unique ingredients for a salad (or a sub for that matter), I was choosing based off flavor, nutrient density, and of course carbs. I went with the “Kali Mist”, which had both turkey and bacon as proteins, plus avocado, jalapeno, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, their “shake” seasoning, and their house dressing, which is a raspberry vinaigrette that I was leery of but decided to hope for the best. I skipped the chipotle mayo (even though I like chipotle) due to most mayonnaise being made with inflammatory oil and I didn’t get onions because I don’t like them cold and on my salad. I enjoyed the heat from the jalapenos and always appreciate seasonings because I’m big on flavor. Size-wise, this didn’t fill me up completely, but I wasn’t going to order something else so I was just tough haha  Note: it did come with croutons that I removed, as they’ll add carbs that I didn’t want. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal that I would have preferred to have more of and if you’re not keto and/or would consider visiting, the place is decorated quite cleverly and the painter that did their murals was extremely talented!
